This page is dedicated to the frequently asked questions about Food Handling courses offered throughout Canada:

Is my certificate transferable to other provinces?

The majority of certification courses that our training providers offer are provincially transferable. Check with your employer to determine if your certification is acceptable at your workplace.

How long does it take to complete the course?

Basic food safety and food handling courses take approximately 8 hours to complete. Some provinces have 10 hour courses. More advanced courses can take an additional 8 hours to a total of 16 hours to complete.

What should I wear to the course?

Candidates will be moving around and participating in a variety of activities. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to the course.

Do I need to complete any homework or do any pre-reading prior to the course?

No, most of our training partners do not require candidates to complete any pre-course assignments or reading.

Can I take this course in another language other than English?

Yes, food handling and food safety courses are available in a variety of different languages. Candidates can also purchase reading manuals and write tests in a variety of languages.

Do I have to write a test to receive my food handling certificate?

Yes, candidates must complete a multiple choice test of about 55 questions. Candidates must receive a minimum grade of 70% to successfully complete the course.

How much does the FoodSafe, food handling or food safety course cost?

The cost of the course varies depending on your location and province. Course fees advertised on our training providers websites are flat fees with no hidden fees. Fees include manuals, certification fees and taxes. Courses range in price from 55 to 85 dollars for basic food safety and food handling courses.

Should I bring food?

None of our training partners provide meals for candidates. You are more than welcome to bring food or purchase food form nearby restaurants.

How do I register for a course?

To register for a course select the course that you require from the side or main menu. It will re-direct you to a page in which you can select your location and then register for the specific location, date and time of the course. Our training partners offer convenient and secure on-line registration systems.
